Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Government has accused the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport Bauchi over deliberate poor operations of the airport in order to pitch its residents against the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed.

The Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hamisu Shira made the allegation in a statement recently, saying the state government would not take actions against the management of the airport if it failed to live up to expectations.

Shira said the management should use the revenue generated in the airport to finance its entire operations by providing all the necessary facilities and commodities needed for efficient operations.

He stated that the current airport management should take full responsibility of the maintenance of the airport as the state government would not tolerate any excuse of poor operations that would affect its integrity and image.

He said: “We have uncovered a deliberate plan by the Management of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport Bauchi to sabotage the good efforts of His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State through poor operations.”

“You will recall that, in the last couple of weeks, Bauchi airport has witnessed frequent cancellations and postponements of flights, long unnecessary delays as a result of the inability of the management of the airport to maintain it effectively.”

“Lights are rampantly switched off when airlines are about to take off. This would not be acceptable as it will cause a blame to our governor who is doing his best to see the progress and development of all sectors of the state’s economy.”

The commissioner, however, assured that the state government will not relent in supporting the airport and other institutions of government to provide efficient services to those patronising their goods and services.
